Rebellion shows that they care. But reveals another issue.

Posted yesterday morning on the Steam AvP Forum  by one of the Rebellion reps a statement pertaining to the recent drop in support for AvP for the consoles and touching slightly on the subject of the PC version as well, providing clarity on some of the feeble-minded  moves done either by a bad marketing idea by SEGA or a bunch of yes men at Fox pertaining to some issues that have been hurting the AvP Community for 2010, the biggest issue being the lack of the release of the Software Development Kit (SDK), charging for maps for multi-player PC version and the lack of community acknowledgment, its been bad business all around, however with this statement might bring some hope:

Rebellion would like to keep supporting the title on all formats for as long as we are allowed. However, ultimately the license belongs to Fox and the game is published by Sega, and any decisions rest with them.

So since release, a lot of the community has been pinning the blame on Rebellion for these reasons, but now with this being cleared, this shows that the true die hard fans and new gamers playing AvP where to address this issue at Fox or Sega  and hopefully, turn Aliens vs Predator into a strong candidate for game of the year.

All we can do is wait and hope.

Writers Personal Note:
As a fan of the Aliens and Predator Franchises myself, I too had high hopes for this game, I thought that since they were releasing Aliens Vs. Predator on Steam, they would follow some great examples that Valve has shown us with their games. In fact as of the recent release of Alien Swarm has shown, you can make a game and have Free DLC and a strong community as well. Anything can happen between now and later, but if your really going to show some respect to the franchise, do what the community asks. At least consider it...
One more thing, to clarify to avoid any possible confusion, I'm talking about DLC being charged for PC, not console, I have no issue with console games being charged for DLC, in fact its quite fine.

A Day in Gaming History

May 10, 2010 marks a historic day in the Dino Crisis franchise the day when a team goes back in time to save a city full of civilians, scientists and military personnel, the question many fans are wondering, did it happen?

Nope, I'm glad to say, nothing happened on a small island out somewhere in a obscure location involving a small team and a facility overrun by dinosaurs. Well we hit this date which opens up some questions for some people, will there be any Dino Crisis related news about a DC title from Capcom? All is quiet on that front so far.

L4D2 DLC Reminder

This is a reminder for anyone who has left 4 dead 2 that the Passing DLC will be released tomorrow for PC and consoles.

The first game add-on for Left 4 Dead 2 brings the original Left 4 Dead (L4D1) Survivors down south for a meeting with the L4D2 cast, while delivering new single-player, multiplayer and co-operative gameplay for the PC and Xbox 360.

The Passing also introduces a series of weekly game mode events dubbed "Mutations." These week-long runs of new gameplay modes range from "Realism Versus" mode to "Chainsaw Massacre," which gives all players chainsaws with an unlimited supply of gasoline. There are over 20 Mutations planned, each playable on all L4D2 Campaigns. Mutations are exclusively available to owners of "The Passing" DLC.

In addition, "The Passing" offers a new co-operative challenge mode of play, support for infected bot play in Versus, a new "uncommon common" zombie class (the fallen survivor), melee weapon (golf club), and firearm (M-60).

Available for 560 Microsoft Points on Xbox 360 and free on the PC, "The Passing" takes place just after the Dead Center campaign of L4D2. Set in a small town in rural Georgia, players assume the role of the L4D2 Survivors as they meet with the L4D1 characters.

Exclusively available for Xbox 360 and the PC, L4D2 sets a new benchmark for co-operative action games. The title adds melee combat to enable deeper co-operative gameplay, with items such as a chainsaws, frying pans, axes, baseball bats, and more.

With the AI Director 2.0, L4D's dynamic gameplay is taken to the next level by giving the Director the ability to procedurally change weather effects, world objects, and pathways in addition to tailoring the enemy population, effects, and sounds to match the players' performance. The result is a unique game session custom fitted to provide a satisfying and uniquely challenging experience each time the game is played.

Finally, with new Survivors, boss zombies, weapons, and items, Left 4 Dead 2 offers a much larger game than the original, featuring more co-operative campaigns, more Versus campaigns, new Survival maps, and the new competitive game mode, Scavenge.

To celebrate the launch of "The Passing" DLC this Thursday Valve employees will be playing on the PC between 11am-5pm PDT and then on the 360 from 7pm-11pm PDT using special accounts. To play with someone from Valve just friend one of the following:

Well it seems like it was only a year ago when we were talking about Crysis and and the CryEngine 3, well it seems that GDC this year was all the buzz again with the CryEngine 3, well Crytek doesn't disappoint again. This year they unveiled the CryEngine 3 Tech demo (pretty different from last years preview) which shows a little more than the its previous one.
Crysis 2 will be a change of pace for console gaming, pushing the bar higher and the expectations, hopefully it delivers on game-play and story plus, not only that, but open more windows into modding options since you can do mapping for PC and port it to the Xbox360 and PS3.

Which could open a door to Mechwarrior:Living Legends for a multi-platform modification.

Plus we get a reveal that Prophet is back and the only way to achieve peace is to prepare for war.

Rebellion digging into AvP Direct X 10 & 11 problem

If your playing AvP and haven't checked it lately on the run options (which I have just found out) you, may have noticed the options to launch the game in dx levels that dx10 is missing, it turns out that  on the 19th they took it out and they released a statement about it:
We are currently investigating reports that some PC users are experiencing ‘stuttering’ when playing Aliens vs. Predator with DX10/DX11. This issue unfortunately wasn’t found during extensive compatibility testing and we believe a few things may be contributing to this: 1) A combination of driver issues and the video memory manager that’s used in Vista and Windows 7 under DX10 and 11. We’re talking to Nvidia and ATI about this. This may also be responsible for the extreme memory usage that some people are seeing.
2) People using settings that are too high for the amount of VRAM in their video cards. Please note that if you adjust the texture detail settings then you must restart the game for this to take effect. There should be a dialog that advises you of this. Please try using the default Normal setting and seeing if that solves or reduces the problem.
3) The V-Sync and/or Reduce Mouse Lag options. The latter is found under the Controls options menu, not Video. Turning both of these off may help on Nvidia cards. This may be related to the problem described in point 4.xiv in the ReadMe.
Playing the DX9 version instead should also solve this stuttering in the mean time.
With regards to the low process priority that some people have noticed, this is intentional when you Alt-Tab out of the game, unless you are playing multiplayer. When you Alt-Tab back in, the process priority should return to normal.
Plus today a video was released by Sega the "developer insight" vid, we get some comments from Mr. Weyland himself, but none noteworthy from the Developers, they mainly talk about the game. And nothing about the current "situation" that has been showing its ugly mug in the PC version of AvP. It's still a nice vid, plus its good to see that they care about the game. Although no "insight" to any solutions.
